Statement by Humanists Hungary on the 2026 Parliamentary Elections

The results of the 2026 parliamentary elections mark a significant moment for Hungary. With strong participation, citizens have expressed their democratic will and their desire for change.

As humanists, we are not aligned with political parties. Our commitment is to human dignity, freedom of thought, pluralism, and evidence-based governance, and this commitment put us in opposition to the policies of the outgoing government. Despite this, we view the outcome not as a victory of one side over another, but as an opportunity to strengthen democratic culture and institutions in Hungary.

We encourage the incoming leadership to uphold the rule of law, ensure institutional independence, and govern with transparency and responsibility. At the same time, we emphasize that democracy requires ongoing civic engagement, critical thinking, and respect for diverse perspectives.

This is a moment not only for political transition, but for renewal – an opportunity to move toward a more open, thoughtful, and humane public life.

Humanists Hungary remains committed to supporting this process through dialogue and the promotion of humanist values.
